What we offer
Paediatric ophthalmology is a challenging field. With a ‘not-so-cooperative’ patient and anxious parents, the challenge gets further amplified. We, at Eyeris Eye Care, take this field as we should, by the horns. We have keen interest in Paediatric Ophthalmology. Apart from the conditions listed above, other conditions like Retinopathy of Prematurity, Uveitis, Retinal detachment, Pathological myopia, Vitreous haemorrhage, Retinoblastoma etc are also seen in paediatric population. Early attention to the day to day activity by the parents coupled with detailed ophthalmic examination will help rule out these conditions in your child.

Vision and Refraction
The ophthalmic evaluation for children is a time consuming task. The first visit of your child to our clinic will primarily be aimed at building a comfortable relation with the child. The cooperation of the child for the entire process is very important in order to reach an accurate diagnosis and treatment.
Routinely, for children aged less than 10 years, we undertake ‘cycloplegic’ refraction in order to arrive at the correct spectacle prescription rather than depending on the equipments. This is due the high accommodative effort of the child which can give rise to erroneous readings with the automated equipment. After the readings are taken, you will be asked to come back on a later date when the actual prescription process will be undertaken based on the readings obtained on the first visit.
Maintaining a good general health of the child with regular use of glasses are generally good enough for a lifetime of good vision.
Squint a.k.a. 'Strabismus'
Squint or Strabismus refers to a condition in people where the eyes are not aligned to each other. Squint generally starts in childhood and progresses into adult life. The correction of squint is essential at the earliest possibility for maximum recovery of binocular vision and stereopsis.
Squint in children can be caused by various reasons. Unequal vision, absent vision, cataract, retinal conditions are few of them. In some cases, it can be purely genetic with normally functioning eyes. So, isolating and treating the underlying condition is of paramount importance so that the squint does not recur after management.
Squint management has various options. These options depends on the type and severity of the squint. Some cases of squint can be managed with glasses and exercises, while some cases might require surgical correction. In cases where the vision of the eye is also affected, the patient may require additional interventions.
We offer all forms of squint management plans at our centre.
Paediatric Cataract and Other Eye diseases
Eye diseases in Paediatric population is very different from adult population. Firstly, their diagnosis is a challenge in itself. Further, the management requires active participation of the caring family for optimum recovery. More time we wait, lower is the visual recovery due to a condition called Amblyopia.
Paediatric cataracts are generally diagnosed in the infancy stage by the parent itself due to its white appearance. The management of this condition is surgical and surgical only. The surgery should be done as early as possible.
Amblyopia in itself is a condition which warrants treatment. Amblyopia is also known as ‘Lazy eye’. The general treatment parameters remain irrespective of the cause and done after correcting the underlying cause. It is a slow recovering condition and age is a critical factor. After an age of 15 years, patients of Amblyopia rarely shows any recovery.
We undertake all forms of paediatric ophthalmic evaluation.
The role of Parents and Teachers
As the Best Sainikpuri Ophthalmologist, we are constrained at our practice location. We do not observe the day to day activities of our patient. We rely on the history provided by the patients. However, there isn’t much we can ask a child. There comes the role of teachers and parents. They are the most reliable sources of disease history for a child. They are also the cornerstone for adherence to the treatment.
We always involve the parents in the eye treatment of their child. This way, we are able to improve our outcomes.
We also conduct School Health screening in order to detect vision-related conditions in the children. Do you have a pediatric population you want us to screen? Do let us know we are the best Sainikpuri Ophthalmologist.
School Health Program
We conduct screening of school children from time to time to detect any vision-related problems. We also undertake teacher-training capsules to empower detection of eye-related problems in the students. Interested? Contact us today or visit our Sainikpuri eye hospital.
